Don’t let the SUN go down…

The news is out that Oracle is looking to purchase SUN after a similar bid from IBM fell appart.  And the big question everyone is asking is “What is Oracle going to get out of this purchase?”.  Others will do justice to this analysis, but my short analysis is that Oracle gets better control over Java and won’t make much of the hardware side of the business…Now for a more entertaining thought…  A few years ago I wondered what would have happened if Apple acquired SUN.  That to me was a better match.  This would have given Apple access to a broad corporate server market to principally do two things: replace aging SUN hardware with XServe machines, evolve the Apple Server family to incorporate technology advances from SUN.  I guess the folks in Cupertino did not see that way or did not think of it…
